making yourself understood

Actvie Listening Sessions are an effective treatment for couples or family members seeking
results-oriented interventions to address conflict(s) within their relationship. These sessions are also effective for non-family members (neighbors, friends, coworkers) who wish to reduce the negative emotional impact of an interpersonal conflict.

What is an active listening session?

Under the guidance of a Licensed Professional Therapist, clients are first trained in very basic active listening skills including: repeating, paraphrasing and identifying emotions. Each client is then given 30 minutes to express their feelings, opinions and beliefs about the relationship, while the other client responds using only active listening skills. Along with ensuring both clients adhere to the format and time limits, the role of the therapist is to point out behavioral and emotional observations, clarify expressions and facilitate the psychotherapeutic process.

Sessions are typically 90 minutes and follow the format below
  • 15 MINUTES: Therapist introduces basic active listening skills and clarifies client goals.
