Group Therapy

According to the US Department of Health and Human services, pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. It is the most common reason Americans access the health care system and the most common cause of long term disability. Living with chronic pain significantly reduces an individual's quality of life and those who suffer with it often feel as if they are not taken seriously by the medical community.

Under the guidance of a professionally trained therapist who also suffers with chronic pain, you will be introduced to a multitude of evidence-based and non-evidence-based treatment options and coping strategies, as well as the latest research regarding chronic pain and the negative emotional symptoms that go along with it. Most importantly, you will be allowed to speak openly about your personal experience with pain in a safe, supportive and validating environment. Clients are encouraged to track the intensity of their pain, attempt new treatments strategies, then track the effectiveness of those strategies.

The primary goal is to reduce the intensity of your chronic pain symptoms as well as the negative emotional symptoms that occur as a result of living with chronic pain. Additional goals: Gain insight into your personal experience with chronic pain, learn and implement coping skills, learn from others who may have strategies you haven't tried yet and receive support and validation from those who are experiencing similar symptoms . Please remember that individual outcomes vary widely and there is no guarantee that your symptoms will be reduced.
An individual session with the group facilitator to determine your specific treatment goals and receive an introduction to the group format, rules and tracking forms (30-45 minutes).

Living With Chronic Pain meets weekly for 90 minutes. New groups are formed when at least 5 clients have been identified (no more than 10 clients per group). FIRST 45 MINUTES: Group facilitator will introduce treatment strategies(s) and/or coping skill(s). SECOND 45 MINUTES: Group members will present and discuss individual progress and/or setbacks.
Initial consultation: $125
Weekly group session: $65
